5 yr old Finn is preparing for his first BE80 with rider Sarah. Trainer Jon Rogers helps the pair establish the Scale of Training in the warm-up in order to improve Finn's jumping technique. Starting with a pole on a circle, the emphasis is on rhythm, straightness and working into a contact, which is tested by asking for a transition to canter after the pole. The pair progress to working over 7 poles (three yards apart) in both trot and canter and then a jump is added at the end. Next, a pole to an oxer followed by another pole helps Finn to make a good shape, which is improved when Jon adds an 'A' frame of poles in front of the jump.
