You'll be able to tell this is a mum writing now.. I think there should be a scheme where all riders hats have an insert in a standard format which includes name, vehicle number and emergency contact numbers. Also there should be a card to be placed in the windscreen of all horseboxes and towing vehicles with rider name and mobile number so if horse is having a crisis while rider away from vehicle they can be contacted to return to sort it out.
Luckily the worst problems don't crop up very often but whenever they might it would be a huge help if the right info were readily available.

We used to have 'Rider Cards' in our hats when we were younger. I presume they still do them. Though I do agree it would be good if they came in hats when you bought them as standard.

I suppose that is why they’ve made those armbands compulsory for XC now. I think it’s a good plan.

Except it's difficult to get them to stay in place and not worry they are going to slip as you go XC. I think they could be much better designed.

My shoulder pad on my body protector has a little plastic slot/window thing that the card goes into. No chance of it budging from there and it saves having the extra thing wrapped round your arm (the body protector is bulky enough without needing a medical armband getting in the way too!). I think it's so much better having it attached to the shoulder pad - why not see if you can have yours adapted?

The problem with having contact information in or on a rider's hat is that, if someone has an accident involving possible head, neck or spinal injury their hat should NOT be removed.
That of course means that information in or on a hat is unobtainable when most needed and is why armbands were introduced. Perhaps more riders should consider using an armband with information on it when riding?
