Biography
About Jason: Growing up on a 4000 acre sheep and cattle property in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, we used homebred horses for working the cattle, for competition and for the local racetrack. I started playing polocrosse along with my three siblings and went on to represent New South Wales at Junior, Under 21 (captain) and Open level, winning the National Titles on two occasions.
From my early teens, I was breaking and training our young horses and became increasingly interested in horse psychology. Spending time with some of Australia’s top horsemen allowed me to learn different techniques and to develop my own ideas and methods. After a six month stint in Zimbabwe playing polocrosse and travelling, a chance meeting with my future English wife, Penny, led me to the UK in 1999.
I decided to settle in Kent in 2002, specialising in starting young horses for all disciplines and retraining ‘problem’ horses. I now handle around 100 horses a year and also breed Australian Stock horses, retrain racehorses for polo and polocrosse and spend time teaching my methods through demonstrations and clinics. My love of polocrosse has never waned and with my British citizenship acquired, I am now playing for the UK in international competition and enjoying being part of one of the UK’s most successful clubs, Kent Target.
In 2009 I was selected to play for England against South Africa and I also travelled to Zimbabwe for the Zimbabwe Open, the only 'professional' polocrosse tournament in the world. I also had the opportunity to promote polocrosse on the BBC and at Your Horse Live.
Outside of horses, my two children, Jack and Rosie, keep me very busy and I’m not averse to the odd beer or two with mates after a game of squash or golf!
Here is a Biog about Risebridge Diesel too, as he will feature in my Blog!
I first flew in a plane as an embryo when Webby (as I like to call my owner Jason Webb) exported my mother, Condamine Rivoli Design, from Australia to the UK. Although I’ve never seen my father, Rosebrook Falute, I’ve been told he’s a handsome and talented chap who is pretty popular with the fillies back in Australia.
After I was born in 2003, I grew up with my buddies El Nino and Alphie. We got up to all sorts of tricks but life got a bit more serious for them when they were sold to Yorkshire and Ireland. For me though, the fun was only just beginning as I got a first taste of what my main job in life was going to be…!
However, being the only Australian Stock Horse stallion in the UK can be a lonely job at times and I’m lucky that I get lots of attention at home. Webby rides me every day, although I wish he’d make his mind up and decide what he wants me to do… dressage one day, polo the next, I even have to show him how high I can jump every now and again. I normally behave myself, especially in front of crowds, when I perform my party pieces such as working with no saddle and bridle (Webby is deluded when he says he’s in total control!). I did get a little out of hand out hunting though… a lot of excitement for a young Aussie boy!
