  • Huw told me to “keep my eye on it” – and then put it straight in to my eye at great speed!

I’m busy packing for the weekend again and buying a tarpaulin to help prevent my tent leaking. This weekend I am riding at a friendly competition organised by the South Somerset Mounted Games teams. This is one of my favourite competitions of the year as it is held in the grounds of a hotel, so we have access to a swimming pool, tennis court, good food and a bar!

Shropshire is not riding here so a new team, ‘The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful", will be having an outing. The team will be two old friends (and old team mates of mine) Andy and Chris Webb (known by many as Bad Webb and Good Webb respectively, for reasons not fit for publication!) and Tammy Watkins, Chris’s better half, whose teams aren’t riding either.

Not only are we producing a fabulously creative team but, in our stores, I found the famous pom-pom hat silks previously worn by the Gloucestershire Babes (first my team of 5 girls when I was 16), so we are hoping that we will be as cute as the Babes!

There will also be a small pairs competition so Huw and I can have a practice before we defend our World Pairs Championship in a couple of weeks. We practiced here last year and in the baton change-over during the first race Huw told me to "keep my eye on it" – and then put it straight in to my eye at great speed. I had the most tremendous black eye and apart from not being able to see out of it, I had to spend ages trying to make myself look human! Fingers crossed that the weather forecast is being unduly dramatic and that we aren’t going to get heavy rain.
