Express Eventing - your verdict!
The inagural Express Eventing in Cardiff on 30th November proved to be controversial. On the positive side, it was a superb effort by Stuart Buntine and his team to take eventing (or a hybrid of the sport, at least) into the public domain and raise consderable prize money in the process, also to provide a new challenge to riders. On the downside, competitors and others have expressed serious concerns over a variety of issues, oversights and hazards which culminated in only 6 out of 19 starters completing the competition and a fatality of an Olympic horse. Problems cited included slippery going, dangerous warm-up areas, extremely light and thin show-jumping poles, an overly challenging cross-country track, lack of communication about the course and stimulation overload in the Stadium.
