  • Alf has had a month off school work following WEG '10. This is the first session in which Laura asks him to do more serious work. After his break, he is feeling well and a little cheeky which Laura likes. She begins by getting straightness under control again, then she does some simple lateral work to increase suppleness and "remind Alf what his hind legs are for"! Laura says she too is getting used to working again and must remember where to sit on Alf and refine her aids. Alf's lazy pace is walk, so Laura pays attention to this. She explains she is not riding for extravagance as that wouldn't be fair to Alf, the aim is just to increase his mobility at this stage.

She describes the pressure on her going last in the team competition, after great performances from team-mates Fiona, Maria and Carl and her battle with nerves. "A medal was there for the taking, I just had to make sure nothing slipped," she said. "The feeling on the final halt was an indescribable mix of relief, excitement and disbelief."

  • Artemis has progressed from an inexperienced Grand Prix horse at Olympia '08 where Richard made the debut of his Elton John Kur, to a polished performer. Richard talks to Fiona Price about their progress and why he is saving the horse for the Olympics in 2012. He goes on to explain his role as dressage team captain and why this doesn't present a conflict of interest as a potential team member. We also find out about Artemis' unusual stable name! We are then privy to Richard's elegant warm up where Artemis looks every bit the athlete. The Freestyle goes according to plan and the pair finish in second place to Laura Bechtolsheimer.
