  • Four-star event rider Harry Meade uses his 6 year old, Jovial Valentino (Tino), to demonstrate the usefulness of bounces in a jumping grid. Before he begins, the commentary of his warm up proves as valuable. Harry talks us through what he is asking the horse and how it will assist with his jumping. The grid itself is unusual, consisting of 6 bounces using one wing and one pole only, in alternating directions to create the illusion of a cross. This way the horse will learn for himself how to jump economically, namely in the centre of each jump!

  • 4 star event rider, Harry Meade, rides his bold and genuine intermediate eventer, Wild Lone, a 7 year old whose canter isn't his best asset! In this exercise, Harry combines jumping with circles to improve engagement and balance in the canter and to get the horse thinking ahead and landing on the correct lead. An instructive (and delightful) piece which you can practise at home and which will benefit your horse's cross country as well as his flat work! (See Fiona Price's video diary for the making of this piece!)

  • Emily Llewellyn won double gold at the Young Rider European Championships '08. She is only 19 but her horsemanship has a maturity far beyond her years. Emily rides her up and coming horse, Junior, who is slightly nervy and a little spooked by our umbrella! He is a 7 year old warmblood who, having evented for only one season, has completed an Intermediate and a 1*. As he tends to be a bit downhill, Emily works on balance and elasticity in the canter to give her the adjustment she needs when approaching a fence and she uses trot poles to help with elevation and energy.

  • Olympic team gold medallist, Laura Kraut, is one of the few Americans to be based in Europe for most of the year, so she's also a regular at the big shows in Britain. Her top horse, the lovely grey Cedric, with his big heart and equally big jump has won the affection of the show-jumping public. Laura talks to Fiona Price about the Olympics and her training style, and we see her in action in the Xmas Stakes with Miss Independent. Later in the week, right on form, she won the Grand Prix!
